"User" access to the Management Console and Managed Devices
All Administrators have full access to all the Managed Devices connected to the console server, and tehy can use the Management Console to fully configure the console server. An Administrator can set up new users, each of whom is given "administrator", "users" or other lesser access privileges.
New Administrators (new users set on the console server as memebers of the"admin" group) will have unlimited GUI and CLI access privileges (refer faq 245):
New Users who were set on the console server as members of the "users"group have:
- Restricted GUI access (to use their browser and the Management Console to fully access the console server)
- Restricted command line access to the console server Linux kernel (can't modify files or stop/start system services)
- Access through the console server to checked hosts only (i.e. can only access those host where the User was given specific access privilege)
- Access through the console server to checked serial ports only
- The SDT Connector Retrieve Hosts automatically retrieves all checked serial port and hosts only
Those Users who weren't assigned to any group or were assigned to group(s) other than "admin" and "users" have:
- No GUI access
- No CLI access
- Access through Opengear to checked hosts only
- Access through Opengear to checked serial ports only
- SDT Connector Retrieve Hosts automatically retrieves all checked serial port and hosts only

To set up a new Users the Administrator:
- Selects Add User on the Serial&Network: Users&Groups menu
- Configures the new User with username/password, group(s) membership
- Nominates the Hosts and serial port devices and PDU outlets the User can access
The new User has no (GUI or CLI) management control over the console server itself however they can use the Management Console to control the devices connected to the gateway and:
- access and control configured devices
- view serial port logs
- use the in-built java terminal to access serially attached consoles
- control Power to nominated Managed Devices
A User logs in to the Management Console using the Username:Password set up by the Administrator, and they are presented with the Manage:Devices menu (shown below). This will display all the Managed Devices and the specific Serial devices, Network Hosts and Power devices they can access
