The exponential growth of M2M and the IoT continues to drive the need for smarter real-time decision-making, deeper data analysis, and more robust data storage at the network edge. The demand for always-on connectivity and resilience in the face of network failure events continues to rise. Failover to Cellular (F2C) was developed with these drivers in mind and delivers:

  • Transparent failover to 4G/3G cellular networks using simple and reliable IP Passthrough technology that allows business operations to continue while IT staff resolve connectivity issues with the primary Internet connection
  • Console connectivity to routers, switches, firewalls, and PDU consoles to troubleshoot problems
  • Transparent failback when the primary connection is restored
  • An easy drop-in solution which works with most existing routers that have dual WAN support

F2C — combined with our Smart OOB  solutions — allows companies to monitor, access, manage and remediate virtually any electronic device at their remote sites — to improve operational efficiency and resilience.

Combining Failover to Cellular and Smart OOB  meets IoT demand for always-on availability and maximizing uptime.

The Failover to Cellular feature will ship in January 2015 as a standard feature in all ACM & IM solutions featuring embedded cellular. Additionally, it will be available as a free upgrade for customers with existing ACM & IM solutions featuring embedded cellular.

The ROI of Cellular Out-Of-Band Management for Networks and Data Centers: Whenever IT administrators ask to purchase new equipment, they are almost guaranteed to get asked about how that particular piece of equipment will pay for itself, either directly by reducing existing costs, or indirectly by improving some other performance metric that is tied directly to the company's bottom line. When it comes to cellular out-of-band solutions from Opengear, that discussion just got a lot easier because our products have strong ROI by both measures.
