How the Presidio Exchange Forum 2014 Learned About Cellular Out-Of-Band Failover: Opengear's Joe Valha recently participated in the Presidio Exchange 2014 forum, an event focused on training and knowledge transfer for Presidio engineering and sales teams and key partners. In-depth sessions and hands-on labs made this an extremely valuable event and we were glad our participation could help improve the understanding about how cellular improves on existing out-of-band management solutions.

Embedded Cellular vs External Dongles - Don't Get Left Hanging: You wouldn't use an acoustic coupler modem to connect your enterprise network to the Internet, so why would you use an external dongle for out-of-band management? While 4G/LTE speeds that are as much as 1,000 times faster than dial-up is a good reason to consider moving to cellular out-of-band management, there are so many additional benefits that come with a device that has cellular built-in.

Last week, a vulnerability was discovered in the bash command shell that allows remote command execution. This vulnerability allowed an unauthenticated remote user to craft a request to the Opengear embedded web service to run arbitrary shell commands.
In response, we have released patched firmware for all current and legacy products. For details on how to apply this patch, please see: https://opengear.zendesk.com/entries/56635965-CVE-2014-6271-CVE-2014-7169-aka-Shellshock-and-Aftershock-Patched-firmware-update-available
